AWS Has Slower Growth But Is Still More Profitable Than Ever

AWS’s revenues reached $12.3 bn in 2016 which is close to a quarter of Amazon’s total revenue. Even though their growth rate went down 12% YoY, AWS raised their margin to 25% (from 19%) in 2016 and resulted more profitable than ever before.

The positive achievements come as no surprise considering AWS’s flexibility and the growing demand for cloud services. The growth is expected to continue in 2017 with major customers as  Workday, CapitalOne and McDonalds set to join the AWS ecosystem.

Although the company’s revenue will undoubtedly continue to grow, new cloud providers and lack of available human resources with the right skills will be a major obstacle to overcome.

Adobe Creative Cloud Prices To Rise in UK

Adobe announced that prices for their Creative Cloud could go up next month and it’s mostly due to the exchange rate chaos caused by Brexit. In January they stated that fluctuating currency rates in Brazil, Sweden and the UK could end up affecting prices. The company avoided publicly disclosing the exact increase. They sent messages to their subscribers according to the products they use.

Rumours suggest that Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan will increase from £8.57 to £10.10/month, while Creative Cloud bundle will go from £45.73 to £50.57 and Creative Cloud for teams will cost £59, up from £53.20.

Most of the increases amount at around 11%, however the student pack will leap for 62%, from £15.49 to £25.28. The update prices will become effective as of March 6th. In the case of existing subscribers, the increase will be effective upon renewal. Adobe has yet to respond to requests for comments and clarifications on the new pricing policies.

Distil Networks Releases Their Access Control List for Device Fingerprinting

Distil Networks has announced the release of their Universal ACL (Access Control List), which uses device fingerprinting to block traffic. By doing so they provide a wider range of methods to filter malicious users from their online applications.

Distil’s Universal ACL allows for blacklisting based on not only IPs, but also geography, company, tokens, hi-def fingerprints, user agents, or referrers. That way they provide more security options and significantly reduce the time and manpower required to handle long lists of blocked addresses. Universal ACL will allow the generation of control lists that expire after a set amount of time which helps avoid blocking real users on IP addresses previously attached to bad bots or hackers. By enforcing a policy based approach, Distil’s customers can create blocking policies aimed at, for example, organisations, countries or host providers, and then apply them to a domain, URL, API or Distil account.
